O Scale Resin Model Manufacturers

Any O Scale model can be converted into a Proto48 model by changing out the trucks or wheelsets. The only manufacturers currently producing resin kits are B.T.S., Rails Unlimited, Smoky Mountain Model Works, Southern Car & Foundry, Sylvan Scale Models, Twin Star Cars, Wiseman Model Service, Inc. and Yarmouth Model Works.

Most resin kits are offered for sale on a limited-time and limited-quanity basis. Even some current manufactures may not always have any kits in stock. So if you see a kit, whether at a show or online, and you want it, buy it when you see it. It may be a while before you see one available again.

Chooch Ultra Scale line of freight car kits, detail parts and building flats will be back in production at Hangman Creek Diorama Company. Detail parts from the old stock are available in July with new production to arrive in August. The kits will be phased into production again in late 2023.

Smokey Mountain Model Works announced a run of the SAL B7 “Turtleback” Box Car. I’ll let you know when it arrives.
